Pay Attention
We live in a society that diligently seeks attention and will do just about anything, even morally compromising acts, to get it. However, there is another plight that plagues the nations of the world. Although unintentional, the planet faces a new problem that doesn’t sit well with the intensified demand for a culture of all eyes on me- the reduced attention span.
How can a social society function properly when everyone demands attention from everyone who can’t pay attention even if they tried? We fail to develop thinkers on a massive scale and have now established a factory like social structure that produces regurgitators; ultimately, imitators of all things that market the promise of attention.
These disasters cripple creative thought and has left one of the most valuable forms of communication on the shelf, written words. This form of dialog is forgotten because the reader is forced to dedicate time and utilize their imagination to participate in an adventure and/or idea. Literary works guide readers through a longer process than a social media blurb or short trending video. Written words preserve history and give insight to context no matter where recorded; stone tablets, cave walls, scrolls, books, or any surface that allow the author to pass on their literary work when they are dead and gone.
Thoughtful Pages is a vehicle that will help revive a creative culture and preserve unique ideas and stories. Stories like Murder Justified: A Duane Cooper Story promote a culture shift and give deep insight to phycological and real-life struggles. Even if society can’t maintain focus, these stories can be read in short burst and then work their way up to full chapters. Thoughtful Pages has hope that books will once again be the last thing read before bedtime. Reading to self or a parent reading to their children is a needed norm that boosts education and invokes the muse.
